1-How much does a move cost?
This is the most frequently asked question and it has no definite answer. Locally, Smooth Movers charges by the hour but it depends on the size of the move and how many movers are needed. Most jobs need 2 movers, but on larger jobs, we recommend 3 or even 4 movers. Long distance moves are different. We will give you a flat binding rate once we calculate all the variables, such as distance, gas, hotels, food, labor etc.
2-How long does it take to move?
Smooth Movers is more than happy to provide packing services, however packing is time consuming and if you want to cut expenses, it is a good idea to have the packing done ahead of time. The more you have things packed in boxes and ready to be loaded into the truck, the faster your move will go. Our average move takes right around 5 hours.
3- I’m on limited budget, and can only afford to hire professional movers for a portion of my move. What should I ask them do?
You'll want the movers to carry heavier, larger items such as bureaus, desks, and sofas. Also, should any items need to be hoisted into or out of your home, it is essential to leave that to trained movers versus risking serious injury to yourself.
4- Can my job be completed in one day?
This depends on whether Smooth Movers is doing the packing, or if you are doing the packing yourself. If you plan to hire Smooth Movers for both the packing and the moving, it is most efficient to have the packing services done the day before the move. If you plan on doing the packing on your own, this needs to be done before the moves arrive. On moving day if everything is boxed up and ready to go, we can generally load and unload the same day for local jobs.
5-How do I begin packing for a move?
Packing is one of the most important aspects of your move. It is recommended that you have the proper moving boxes. The ones you can get from supermarkets may be free but they're not nearly as strong or padded. They are more susceptible to causing damage to your valuables in transit.
Always remember that the heavier the item, the smaller the box that it should occupy. Buffer and separate fragile objects with sheets, blankets, pillows and towels. Fill in empty spaces to minimize movement during transit. Always mark the boxes containing fragile items.
6-I want to do some packing and moving of small items before the movers arrive. What areas would be most helpful?
Focus on packing, not moving. You'll be amazed how quickly many helping hands - either professional movers or your friends - can carry all of your boxes. Don't spend time trying to move these items yourself. Rather, focus on packing boxes, so when the help arrives, you're ready. You should prioritize your preparation into three areas:

Just had a move to Colorado
We had a very successful move to Colorado today! Sterling (the owner) had his movers load up the 26 foot moving truck yesterday and Sterling himself drove the truck straight to Colorado, stayed the night in a hotel and unloaded first thing the next morning and drove straight back home. That is what is so great about Smooth Movers being a smaller local moving company. We can confirm an exact time of unload and we don't contract our labor out to movers we are not completely familiar with. Smooth Movers is also very affordable and competitive with other companies. You will most likely get the very best deal from Smooth Movers since we are a smaller company and don't have as high of overhead as some of the larger companies so we can give you a better deal. The great thing is that on long distance moves the owner of the company Sterling Brown does the move himself so you can be assured you are going to get the best care possible with someone that has so much invested in the company.
